Native American Fringe Earrings - Teal & Bronze Shorter Version

  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Light Bronze" (457L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Metallic Light Bronze" (DB22L)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Matte Galvanized Meade" (DB1163)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Opaque Luster Newsprint" (DB261)
  • 11/0 Miyuki Delica beads "Duracoat Dyed Opaque Eucalyptus" (DB2131)

I blogged about the longer version of this earring HERE yesterday and I had mentioned that I wanted to try making a shorter version that still looked similar to the original. Today's sample earring is what I came up with. Although it's pretty, I do think I like the original better so I'm starting to think that I might keep the longer earring and make the mate to it. Maybe I'll get used to them tickling my shoulders. What do you think?

Below you can see the shorter version next to the original long version:

  1. Hi Linda, both versions of the earrings look absolutely spectacular!!! I wear small earrings, so for me even the short one is actually long. My vote goes to the short version. Best, Raisa

    1. Thanks, Raisa. I always wore small earrings too but I'm gradually getting used to wearing larger ones in my old age.

  2. Linda, I know it's been a few years since your posted this :-). But, I couldn't resist responding to your beautiful creations.

First, I love how you give us the original inspiration link, to be able to see the evolution--your inspirations. Second, I find your comments insightful.

You asked about the longer version versus the shorter version. I, too, used to wear long, funky earrings; but, as I got older, not so much.

But, when I turned 60 a few years back, some funny things happened. Like my filter on what I said turned off :-) I became the old lady crone! And, I went back to my funky earrings. But, this time, I am making them.

Design & color-wise, I prefer the long version of these earrings. I have the 11/0 Delicas in newsprint luster; and, I like it a lot. But, I really think that in the shorter version, it "drabs down" the palette. I like the "pop" of the different copper tones, along with the metallic muscat. And, I felt an immediate harmony for the color palette--and discovered a few new green hues! I love the asparagus & cactus with the copper hues. They just go together.

    Thanks for sharing your inspirations.

Hope you don't mind comments years down the line.......For what it's worth........

    1. Hi Maggie. I don't mind at all getting comments on old posts. I appreciate your feedback. I also have decided in my old age that I don't care what anyone else thinks so I wear what I like. Plus, every time I wear the really long fringe earrings, my husband tells me how nice they are. I just have to be careful when I brush my teeth that they don't end up with toothpaste on them when I bend over the sink, LOL.
