Free Beading Pattern - Lizbeth Band

LIZBETH BAND
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • SuperDuo beads "Metallic Suede Teal"
  • 3mm druks "Jet"

I've been promising to publish this pattern almost since the beginning of this blog and since then it has been requested more than any other bracelet design I have blogged about. I began my blog in January of 2014 shortly after Teejay sent me lots of wonderful beaded bracelets for Christmas in 2013. Not long before that, Deborah Roberti had released her "Bobble Bangles" pattern and Teejay wondered if there was a way to make Deb's design work with SuperDuo beads. With several tweaks to Deb's pattern, she found a way and "Duo Bobble Band" was born. We have changed the name to "Lizbeth Band" so that it won't be so similar to the name of Deb's pattern.

In time there will actually be three patterns in the "Lizbeth" family of bracelets, all based on bracelets that Teejay sent me that Christmas. The next one will be called "Liz Band" because it's a simplified version of "Lizbeth". The third one doesn't feature SuperDuos but it's also an adaptation of Deb's pattern and will be called "Lizzie Bracelet".

"Lizbeth Band" is fairly easy to make. The bracelet is comfortable to wear and is a nice medium width; not too thin and not super wide. Depending on the beads that you use, Lizbeth can be very casual or quite dressy. The pattern works best with druks or pearls but small rondelle crystals also work nicely as long as they aren't wider than 3mm. I've tried using 3mm fire polished beads but they are actually a little longer than 3mm and cause the beadwork to warp so I haven't listed them as an option. However, fire polished beads will work perfectly with "Liz Band" and the "Lizzie Bracelet".

As I mention in the pattern PDF, it works best with Miyuki seed beads because of their small, consistent shape. You can use Toho seed beads but you may have to coax them into forming neat arches around the SuperDuo beads. Just make sure that the beads have sort of "locked" in place before moving on to the next step. I used Toho beads to make the black and gold bracelet below. The benefit of using the larger Toho seed beads was that I was able to use the smooth type of SuperDuos. They won't work well with the tiny Miyuki seed beads because there isn't enough space for the fatter SuperDuos in the smaller motifs.

For today's post, I'm featuring several bracelets that I have blogged about previously as "Duo Bobble Band". They're ones that I made for myself and still have on hand which allowed me to take updated photos of all of them. Also, since the name of the pattern has changed, I will update all of my old posts with the new name and will also add a link to download the free pattern. I have made several new colorways which I will blog about over the next week or two. The link to download the pattern is down below the bracelet photos.

Bracelet of the Day: Simple IrisDuo Chain - Aqua & Bronze

SIMPLE IRISDUO CHAIN
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Dark Bronze" (457)
  • IrisDuo beads "Metallic Aqua"
  • 2mm Czech pearls "Antique Ivory"

I love this colorway. When I was nearly finished making this bracelet, I got the idea to try adding some 2mm pearls between the motifs. I think they add a pretty touch. The pattern doesn't mention the pearls but they were easy to add. I just wove my way down the length of the finished bracelet on both sides and added the pearls as you can see in the photos.

IrisDuo beads are available HERE at Queen City Bead. Download my free "Simple IrisDuo Chain" bracelet pattern from THIS post.

Bracelet of the Day: Simple IrisDuo Chain - Green & Copper

SIMPLE IRISDUO CHAIN
  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Dusty Cedar" (YPS0014)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Metallic Dusty Cedar" (YPS0014)
  • IrisDuo beads "White Teal Luster"

Today's bracelet was made with Toho seed beads in a fairly new color. It's a lovely shade of copper and they come in 11/0, 8/0 and 6/0 sizes. Too bad that they don't make them in 15/0 as well. You can buy them at Supply Emporium on Etsy or at Red Panda.

Free Beading Pattern - Simple IrisDuo Chain

SIMPLE IRISDUO CHAIN
  • 11/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Light Pewter" (4221)
  • 8/0 seed beads Miyuki "Duracoat Light Pewter" (4221)
  • IrisDuo beads "Pastel Petrol"
  • IrisDuo beads "Copper"

  • 11/0 seed beads Toho "Galvanized Starlight" (557PF)
  • 8/0 seed beads Toho "Galvanized Starlight" (557PF)
  • IrisDuo beads "Metallic Violet"

To make up for the lack of beading posts in the past month or two, I thought I'd whip up a quick little bracelet pattern. I do hope to have more beadwork to blog about soon and I'm also hoping to post some of the free patterns that I've been promising for what seems like years and years.

IrisDuos are 2-hole beads that measure 8mm x 4mm and are the same length as DiamonDuos and GemDuos. This chain bracelet is made using the same basic method as the chain part of my "SuperDuo Flower Chain" pattern except that the number of seed beads has been adjusted to fit the larger IrisDuo beads instead of SuperDuos. This pattern works best with Miyuki seed beads but I have come up with a work-around for using Toho seed beads. I suggest that you use Fireline if you use Toho beads. They have smaller holes than Miyuki beads so there may be times when it will be difficult to get your needle through the 11/0 beads between the motifs with Nymo D thread. I almost never had to use my pliers to pull my needle through when I was working with Miyuki beads but had to use them nearly every time with Toho beads.

NOTE: It was brought to my attention that bead shops are listing IrisDuos as being 7mm x 4mm in size. Apparently they are rounding the size down because they are actually slightly longer than 8mm when measured with calipers. They are in between the length of DiamonDuos and GemDuos.

Queen City Bead has a nice selection of IrisDuo colors. Get 10% off your bead order in Donna's Etsy shop by using the coupon code "Bead10". My wrist measurement is 6 inches and I needed 13 IrisDuos for the bracelet with Miyuki seed beads. I only needed 12 IrisDuos to make the one with Toho seed beads.
